Mountain Medicine

As most of you know, www.mtnmm.com is finally a reality. Those who have known me from the beginning of this journey know what this has taken from me to get here. As much running as I’ve done, it was a crawl. A slow and not so steady crawl. The universe opened up and showed me what I was capable of and then drug me through the mud; hitting every god damn boulder stuck in the earth all the way to Estes Park, CO. I didn’t want to be here. I made that abundantly clear to everyone before taking off west for my first backpacking job in Utah with Wilderness Therapy. Southwest CO stole my heart and I dreamed I’d end up there, but Estes called me first. And I’m so glad it did. But before Estes, I made a living running. Running from everything I used to be and didn’t want to be anymore. Maybe it’s just a website, but to me it’s a dream come true. To me, it’s confirmation I’m crawling in the right direction. This road hasn’t been easy and I have a long way to go but today I’m celebrating with you, Mountain Medicine March.

What is Mountain Medicine? How can nature heal? I could write a book. I use shamanic based practices I’ve studied over the years and use nature as a powerful metaphor for understanding and interpreting all aspects of life. Mountain Medicine could be described as an approach to healing and growth that draws wisdom and inspiration from the mountains. Mountain medicine emphasizes the connection between the natural world and the human spirit. It involves practices that align with the cycles, elements, and energies found in mountainous terrains. Mountain Medicine embraces profound lessons of nature to foster healing, insight, and harmony within oneself and the world. The land is my teacher, my guide, and has my respect. Building that connection strengthens my confidence and deepens the love within myself.
